Billing and subscriptions

Updated

You can subscribe in the app (through the App Store or Google Play) or on the web at embrly.app — and where you bought the plan is where it's managed. For web plans, everything lives in the Billing panel in your settings on embrly.app: buying, upgrading, changing a card, downloading invoices and cancelling all start from the same block. For plans bought in the app, your phone's store handles payment, receipts, and cancelling.

On the web: Dashboard → Settings

Buying a plan

Sign in at embrly.app and open Settings. The Billing block shows "Choose a plan to get started", a Monthly / Annual toggle, and a card per plan you're eligible for. Pick your billing period first — it decides what checkout offers you — then choose a plan and you'll be handed to Stripe's secure checkout page. Embrly never sees or stores your card number.

Once payment goes through you land back on Settings and the block changes to show your tier, your seat usage ("4 of 10 seats used"), whether you're Active or Trialing, and the date it renews.

Only the salon owner can buy or manage a salon's plan, and only the brand owner can manage a multi-location group's. If you're a stylist on a team, the panel says so plainly: your plan and seats are managed by the salon owner, and there's nothing for you to do there.

Adding and reducing seats

Owners get seat controls right in the Billing block, next to the seat usage line — you don't need the Stripe portal for this.

Add a seat charges you immediately, prorated for the rest of the current month, and the seat is usable straight away. Reducing the count takes effect at your next renewal instead: no refund for the month you're in, and nobody is removed from your roster — a lower count only limits how many new invites can be redeemed. Extra seats bill monthly even when your base plan is annual. Full detail is in Seats and team management.

Managing an existing plan

This section covers plans bought on the web. (Subscribed in the app instead? Your plan is billed by the App Store or Google Play — manage or cancel it in your phone's subscription settings; the app's plan row takes you there, and the web panel will say the plan is store-billed rather than offer portal buttons that can't touch it.)

Press Manage billing. That opens the Stripe customer portal, where you can:

  • update or replace your payment method
  • change plan, or add and remove extra seats
  • download past invoices and receipts
  • cancel

When you're done, the portal returns you to Settings. Because plan and seat changes are read back from Stripe, what you change in the portal is reflected in Embrly automatically — you don't have to tell us separately.

Upgrading and downgrading

Use Manage billing rather than buying a second time. If you try to start a fresh checkout while a plan is already running, you'll see "There's already an active plan here — use Manage billing to change it."

Two things worth knowing before you switch:

  • Extra seats bill monthly. A team over the included seat count needs a monthly plan, not an annual one.
  • A location inside a multi-location group can't take Salon Lite or Salon Pro. You'll see "This location is part of a group — manage it on the Salon Scale plan above." Group billing is one plan for the whole brand.

Adding seats is the fix when your team outgrows the pool — see Seats and team management. Prices and what each tier includes are in Plans and pricing.

If a payment fails

The Billing block stops offering plans and tells you instead: "Your last payment didn't go through. Update your card to keep your team's access. Nothing has been lost." The button becomes Update payment method and takes you to the same portal. Your team keeps working while you sort it out — a failed payment puts you in a grace period, not straight out the door.

Paying from the mobile app

You can. Open Settings in the app: the Plan & billing section shows your status — "Founding trial · 6 days left", "Active · renews 14 Sep 2026", or "Your seat is covered by Rooted Salon" — and See plans opens the plan picker. Subscribing there runs through your phone's own store (the App Store on iPhone, Google Play on Android), so payment, receipts and cancelling live in your store account. In the United States the same screen also offers checkout on our website at the web price — pick whichever suits you.

A plan is a plan either way: the app and the web dashboard both reflect it moments after the purchase. One difference worth knowing: extra seats beyond a tier's included pool are a web-plan feature — a store-billed salon that needs more seats changes tier in the store instead.

If you'd rather do it at a desk, embrly.app on a laptop is the same account.

Invoices and receipts

Stripe emails a receipt for every payment to the address on the account, and the full invoice history is in the customer portal behind Manage billing. Discounts, if you have one, appear on your Stripe invoices and at checkout rather than in the Embrly panel.
