Coupons and complimentary access

Updated

If we've given you a code — a beta code, a founding-partner code, a code from an event — you enter it at checkout, not in Embrly. This explains where the box is, why it sometimes isn't there, and where to look afterwards to confirm it worked.

On the web: Dashboard → Settings

Redeeming a code

  1. Sign in at embrly.app and open Settings.
  2. In the Billing block, make sure the period toggle is set to Monthly.
  3. Choose your plan. You'll be handed to Stripe's checkout page.
  4. On that page, open Add promotion code, type your code, and apply it. The total updates before you pay.
  5. Finish checkout. You come back to Settings with the plan active.

Codes are case-sensitive and typed exactly as we sent them. If a code is rejected at checkout, it has usually expired, been used already, or doesn't apply to the plan you picked — reply to the email it came in and we'll sort it out.

Why the code box sometimes isn't there

The promotion-code box only appears on monthly checkouts. If you pick Annual before choosing a plan, Stripe won't offer a code field at all.

That's on purpose. Our complimentary codes are written as "free for the next few months", and monthly and annual share the same underlying product — so a code applied to an annual checkout would comp a whole year rather than a few months. Rather than risk that, annual checkouts skip the box entirely.

So: if you have a code, start on Monthly. You can switch to annual billing later from the billing portal, once the complimentary period is over.

Where a discount shows up

Not in Embrly. The Billing panel shows your tier, your seat usage, your status and your renewal date — it doesn't display a discount, a coupon name, or a "comped" badge, and neither does the app.

To confirm a discount is applied, look at Stripe instead:

  • the checkout page itself, before you pay
  • the emailed receipt for each payment
  • your invoices in the customer portal, behind Manage billing

A comped plan is a real subscription in every other respect. It has a status, a renewal date, a seat pool and a card on file, and it behaves exactly like a paid one — including renewing at full price once the complimentary months run out. If you're on a code, note when it ends so the first full charge isn't a surprise.

Other ways you might not be paying

A founding trial. Every new salon and solo stylist gets one, free, with no card and no code. Settings shows the days remaining, and when it ends your work stays exactly where it is — you just pick a plan before starting anything new. See Plans and pricing.

A covered seat. If you're a stylist on a salon's roster, you never pay anything. Your seat comes out of the salon's pool and Settings tells you so. There's no code for you to enter and nothing to buy.

If something looks wrong

If you were told you'd be comped and you've been charged, or a code didn't apply before you paid, don't cancel and re-buy — email us and we'll fix it on the existing subscription. Cancelling and starting again can cost you the code.
