Discover — saving looks, kudos, and notes
Updated
Embrly's public side is open. You can browse the whole feed, flip photos, follow booking links, and save a look to your phone without signing in anywhere. As a client you never need an account — kudos are peer recognition between stylists, and leaving a note only needs a link from your stylist.
On the web: Discover
Facet pages
The dropdowns at the top of Discover — Technique, Color, Texture, Length, and City — are navigation, not temporary filter settings. Picking an option takes you to that facet's own page, like /discover/balayage or /discover/gilbert-az. Each one has a permanent address, so you can bookmark it, send it to a friend, or land on it from a search engine.
A specialty page shows the looks tagged with that work, the stylists who do it, and the salons they work at. A city page shows who is working near you. If a facet has stylists but no tagged looks yet, the page says so and points you at the stylists.
Saving a look
Open any look's own page (tap the arrow in the corner of a photo, or tap through from a stylist's page) and you will see a Save look button. It downloads the look as a single credited image — the before and after together, with the stylist's name and handle on it. The button reads Saving… while it works, then Saved ✓.
Two things worth knowing:
- No account is needed. The image goes straight to your device's downloads.
- It is a download, not a collection. Embrly does not keep a saved-looks list for clients. If you want to keep a look, save the image, or bookmark the look's page in your browser.
If the download does not start, the button opens the image in a new tab instead — long-press or right-click to save it from there.
Giving kudos
Kudos are how you tell a stylist their work landed. The button lives on a stylist's page and reads Send [name] kudos, or Be the first to send [name] kudos if nobody has yet.
Kudos come from stylists. Kudos are peer recognition — sent by other Embrly stylists, not by the general public. If you are signed out you'll see the count but no button. This is deliberate: peer-only kudos keep the counts honest and meaningful, since there is no anonymous way to inflate them. (Want to show a stylist some love as a client? Save the look, book the chair, or leave a note when they hand you their QR.)
If you are a stylist signed in to Embrly:
- One kudos per stylist. Tap again to take it back — the button reads Kudos sent while yours is counted.
- You cannot send kudos to your own page.
- There is a daily ceiling. Past it you will see "That's a lot of kudos today — send the rest tomorrow."
- The button only appears on pages that are listed on Discover.
Leaving a note
Client notes are the reviews you see on stylist and salon pages, and they work differently from kudos on purpose. You cannot write one from the website. A note can only be left through a one-time link — usually a QR code your stylist shows you at the end of your appointment.
When you open that link you get a short form: your first name, and a few words about the visit (at least ten characters, up to 600). Then tap Leave the note. No account, no email address, no password. The note publishes with your first name only, and the link works once.
The same in-chair link may also ask whether your stylist can show your photo. The two are kept separate — agreeing to be photographed and leaving a note are different decisions, and you can do either without the other.
What needs an account, in short
Nothing, if you are a client. Browsing Discover and the directories, flipping photos, saving a look, following a booking link, and leaving a note from an in-chair link all work signed out. Kudos are sent by stylists from their own Embrly accounts — as a client you will see the count, and that is by design.
